She’s as famous for her ever-changing looks as she is for being a workaholic singer, actress, and all-around superstar. Here, some of her secrets to staying fierce
Are there similarities between music and perfume?
When I write songs, I want them to be sensual and sexy, so women can go out on the dance floor and feel free and strong—like they can say whatever they want to say, especially to the opposite sex. And that’s what I wanted Heat to do too. You feel more confident when you’re wearing a fragrance you love.
Any anti-fatigue beauty tricks?
I always keep a pair of Ray-Bans handy! And sometimes I put a little gold eye shadow in the inner corners of my eyes—it’s more subtle than white, but it still really makes you look more awake.
What do you use to give your body skin that velvety sheen?
I layer on bronzers for public appearances. I love L’Oréal Paris Sublime Bronze One Day gel, which you can just get at Walmart, and Scott Barnes Body Bling is also great.
You do your own makeup for performances. Why not use a makeup artist?
It’s a way of getting into the zone—it’s part of becoming Sasha Fierce. I’m able to sit down for an hour and play around with makeup, which I find really relaxing and fun. Before a tour, I have my makeup artist design a look for me—she draws it on paper to show me where to put everything.
How important is hair and makeup for getting into film roles?
Very. Especially playing Etta James in Cadillac Records—once I put on that blond wig and those thick eyebrows, I felt much more natural in her skin. That’s one of the things I love about makeup: You can change your whole attitude just by doing your eyeliner or lipstick differently.
What are some of your staple red-carpet tricks?
I use a makeup primer, and then I use a lot of powder to keep everything in place. I usually go for a waterproof mascara, or a strip of false lashes when I’m onstage, so I won’t get smudgy. And I love L’Oréal Paris Elnett hairspray—it holds like nothing else.
Your mom owned a hair salon when you were growing up. Did you try out a lot of styles?
Oh, yeah. I’m sure it was scary for her because I was always messing with my hair when I was a kid. One of the worst things I did was cut my ponytails off. I saw my mom doing extensions, so I thought she’d be able to put them back on. Thankfully I had separated my hair into quarters and I only cut off the front two ponytails. Afterward I had to have really thick bangs for a while.
Did it make you more fearless about experimenting as an adult?
Definitely. I’m still always doing something to my hair—cutting layers, or bleaching it, or taking it upon myself to copy fashionable hairstyles without knowing the necessary techniques. A couple of weeks ago, I cut my own bangs and put highlights in the front. When my stylist saw me, she was like, “What did you do?!” I did a pretty good job, but she still had to fix it. We’re always joking that I’m a frustrated hairdresser.
How often do you exercise?
I’ve never been all that consistent. If I’m onstage doing a performance for two and a half hours, I don’t really think I need to do anything else. So when I’m on tour, I let it slide. But I just started working out at the Tracy Anderson gym. It’s hard work!
Tracy Anderson is known for reshaping people’s bodies. Is that what you want?
Not really; I’m pretty happy. I want to get my arms a bit leaner, but other than that, it’s just maintenance.
Do you follow a specific diet?
Well, I don’t eat pasta every day. I’m not trying to lose or gain weight, but I do have to work out and watch what I eat. I’m not someone who can go crazy. I’ll usually have cereal for breakfast and a salad for lunch and a light dinner, and then on Sundays I’ll allow myself to have whatever I want.
You famously did the Master Cleanse for your role in Dreamgirls. Would you ever do it again?
Never. I did it to lose weight really fast, but it wasn’t fun. There are healthier ways to lose weight—I wouldn’t recommend it.

Kiwi : Kiwi Face Mask
Kiwi
Any food with lots of vitamin C, like kiwi, oranges, and grapefruit, is a big skin saver, according to Drayer. Vitamin C stimulates collagen synthesis and protects against wrinkles. In a study done by the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, women who had a diet high in vitamin C foods had noticeably less dryness and fewer wrinkles.
Peel one kiwi and place it in the blender or food processor. The seeds of kiwi fruit will help to gently exfoliate the skin, leaving your face smooth and soft. Kiwi, like strawberry, is also full of alpha-hydroxy acid, which can help reduce oil, prevent blackheads and balance your complexion.

Taylor Lautner interview
Get to Know Taylor Lautner New Moon star Taylor Lautner tells us about his first kiss, his worst habit, and why he still gets shy around girls.
How old were you when you had your first kiss?
"It was sometime in junior high. I don't remember what year, but it was definitely in junior high. I think it was just with a random girl from school. I mean, it's not like I walked up to her and was like 'You're just a random girl and I'm going to kiss you,' but just a girl from school, and we had a little thing in junior high."
What's the girl fashion trend that confuses the heck out of you?
"I have one that sometimes I don't understand and sometimes I think is really cute: leg warmers. Sometimes it looks really awkward, like Why are you wearing those? and sometimes it's like, that's pretty cute. Maybe it's the girl or has something to do with wearing them on a sunny day. Like when it's California weather and it's 90 degrees, you don't need to be wearing them. Maybe that's the answer: The fashion trend I don't understand — leg warmers when it's 90 degrees out!"
What's the chick flick you secretly love?
"It's definitely girly: The Notebook. And A Walk to Remember."
What's your TV guilty pleasure?
"One thing I watch off the hook because it's on every single night up here [in Vancouver] and I usually can't find it in the States that much is Dog: The Bounty Hunter."
Who would play you in the movie version of your life?
"Everybody else always says Johnny Depp, but I wouldn't mind Brad Pitt or Matt Damon. When people ask me whose career I'd want to have, I say Matt Damon. I love the Bourne series."
If you could trade places with anyone in the world for one day, who would it be?
Brian Austin Green, because he gets to date Megan Fox!
Who in your family are you closest to?
"My sister because she looks up to me, but I also look up to her in a way. She's younger, she's only 10, so I'm probably going to be one of those brothers who are watching her with boys, which she's probably not going to like too much."
What's your favorite Web site?
"I'm not on the computer that much, but I used to go to this Web site called addictinggames.com. It has the coolest games and a lot of variety, so whenever I was bored, I would just go on that."
What's your worst habit?
"I bounce my knees, but I do not have restless leg syndrome. I did an interview, I don't even know who it was with, and they said I told them I have restless leg syndrome and it distracts me from my work. I do not have any syndrome. I actually have many friends [like me] who just bounce their knees."
Being that you have tons of screaming fans, is it easy for you to talk to girls?
"[Laughs] Oh, I definitely wouldn't say I overcame that. I guess it just depends on the girl. Sometimes I'll feel free to completely open up, and I wish I could do that more often because that's what I look for in a girl. Someone that can open up and be herself, but no, I definitely haven't overcome it completely."
What's the last song you listened to on your iPod?
"It was actually a techno song. I listen to them to get pumped up on set."
What's the last thing you bought?
"Last night's steak [dinner]."
What did you dream about last night?
"I don't remember. I never remember my dreams."
How much money is in your wallet right now?
"I don't have a wallet with me."
What's a relationship deal breaker for you?
"If a girl doesn't know how to smile or laugh or if they try to play cool all the time. Playing hard to get is not the way to win me over. I'm definitely more for the girl who can smile and laugh all the time and just have a good time!"
Do you play any instruments?
"I've always kind of had an interest in the drums but nothing else. The drums are the only thing I feel I would be good at, because I'm a very physical person. I've always played sports and stuff. Drums would give me something to do."
Fill in the blank: When I look back at 17, I'll remember...
"Being on the set filming New Moon or Eclipse, because both of them occur while I'm 17. And New Moon has definitely been a blast so far, with the whole cast and crew. That's definitely going to be it."

Kiwi and Papaya Face Mask
Face Mask - Kiwi and Papaya Face Mask
This is a gel mask that harnesses the natural fruit acids in kiwifruit, lime, and papaya to exfoliate gently, leaving the skin smooth and rejuvenated. Makes enough for one or two facial treatments.
Ingredients
1 kiwifruit, peeled
Juice of 1 lime
1/2 papaya
2 packets gelatin
1. Mash the kiwifruit through a sieve into a small bowl. Add the lime juice to the kiwi.
2. Scoop out the seeds from the papaya, and mash the flesh on a chopping board, using a fork (this makes it slightly easier to press through the sieve). Press the papaya through a sieve into the top of a double boiler and mix with the gelatin, using a fork.
3. Put the pan with the papaya mixture over the bottom of a double boiler filled halfway with boiling water and stir constantly. As soon as mixture forms a wallpaper-paste consistency, remove from heat immediately and continue to stir. Add the kiwifruit/lime juice mixture slowly, bit by bit, stirring constantly. Set aside to cool.
4. When mixture is cool, apply the gel to your face, avoiding the eye area, and leave on for 10 minutes, up to 1 hour. Wash off with warm water. Most effective when used as soon as possible but will keep when refrigerated for up to 48 hours.

Get the Look: Kristen Stewart in Eclipse
RB: What was your inspiration for Bella's look in the film?
RM: We had to keep Bella's makeup natural but still make her stand out among all the other mythical creatures with their dramatic makeup. I've often described her look as "flawed yet flawless." She is a modern-day fairy-tale character, a heroine beloved by so many. Her look needed to be comparable to the flawlessness of a Snow White or Sleeping Beauty. Yes, she is a real human girl, and that is where the flawed part comes in, but if her look was too plain she wouldn't be able to hold her own next to these creatures, and the movie would be a little off-kilter.
RB: What are your tricks to getting a natural look like Bella's?
RM: I'd say the key to Bella's look is flawless skin, naturally enhanced eyes, pretty peachy-pink cheeks, and matching lips. Since Bella is naturally pale, the secret to keeping her from looking washed out is to warm it up a bit with the blush and the lips. Also, stay away from cool tones and use warmer ones instead. I used a combination of five different blushes to get Bella's look in the film. (Note: Mathews is keeping specific products on the hush since the series isn't over yet.)
RB: Do you have a favorite look for Bella in the films?
RM: I love how Bella looks in both New Moon and Eclipse. Kristen is such a naturally beautiful girl, but when we finish the Bella makeup and put the contacts in she looks completely different — it's astonishing. Chris Weitz (director of New Moon) said that it looked like Kristen as Bella had stepped out of a classic Renaissance painting, and I agree. We also had a lot of fun creating Bella's vampire look for New Moon. You only see a flash of it in the movie, but it was setting the design for what Bella will become in Breaking Dawn. Bella becomes the most badass vampire of them all, and I had a blast being able to depict on-screen what she would look like in the minds of the readers.
RB: What's your one superhero product you can't live without on or off set?
RM: I only get one?! That would have to be Clé de Peau Beauté Concealers.
